AdaptiveBorn and raised in Hong Kong, China, I chose to pursue higher education in the United States. Though living thousands of miles away from home is never easy, I believe the foreign experience could equip me with adaptability and perseverance more than just knowledge.
After representing Penn State to compete in NCAA championships for 3 years, I am very grateful and honored to be appointed as the Vice Captain of the Penn State Fencing team, which consists of over 60 athletes from over 10 different countries. Although a leadership role in a varsity team is too little to be defined as an achievement in my life, it proves that my effort to adapt to the new environment is recognized and paid off to earn my coaches and teammates' trust in my leadership. |
AdventurousAs I am always willing to jump out of my comfort zone and take on different challenges in my life, I have involved myself in other student organizations outside my sport and interacted with many people from non-athletic backgrounds.
After joining the executive board of the Hong Kong Student Association (HKSA), I realized how tough and restrained it is for international students to gain attention and define themselves within a foreign community. In my junior year, I decided to work along with several friends who share the same goal and established a student union formed by several minority student associations - Student Union for Perks (SUPERK) - aiming to voice for the neglected ones and to strive for minority students' welfare and perks with collective power. With such a great cause behind this union, the SUPERK has provided me organizations was not only challenging, but also meaningful. |

AmbitiousI have been representing my country and competing around the world with the Hong Kong Fencing Team since I was a sophomore in high school. Thanks to all the world-class coaches who worked with me in the past, I was recruited to the Penn State Fencing Team as a two-time National Champion in China. Inspired by many alumni who are successful in both fencing and professional career, I determined to seek success in the professional world with my ambitions on the fencing strips.
